A bright young man who led with passion, kindness and a desire to do life his way. Finley was excellent role model to others, using his bright smile and towering height to spread kindness to all. He was wanting to play college football and study computer science and engineering. Finley put in the work to make his dreams a reality and he was well on his way to accomplishing them, all while making his community a better place.
Finley got sick with pneumonia in June and had a consistent cough. His symptoms, in addition to being Factor V Leiden positive, as he told them to the dr's: consistent cough, non productive, low energy, he stated he saw black dots and his legs got heavy and he almost collapsed during walk through at practice, he presented with a high heart rate, o2 levels in the lower 90's, (they were in the 80's the night before at the game) what sounded like a heart murmur (he had never had one before), chest X-ray was clear, EKG showed right heart strain, we were sent to cardiology and he was cleared one week before he went into cardiac arrest. We are fighting to raise awareness that blood clots and PE (Pulmonary Embolism) happen in pediatric patients and need to be looked at no matter what the age. We also are fighting to make more awareness around blood clotting disorders, so other families are not left wondering why it wasn't caught.
We launched this Foundation to spread awareness about Blood Clots in pediatric patients and athletes, so that symptoms like Finn's will lead to the proper testing and diagnosis and others will not have to pay the ultimate price. We also hope to honor Finley's legacy through kindness.
Raise awareness that blood clots do not discriminate. Shine Finley's light through our actions!
